A DC Science Café event: Places Of Invention: Contexts for Creativity
|
|
We all feel more creative and innovative in certain places and contexts, but why is that? What makes places like Silicon Valley or Edison’s laboratory in Menlo Park engines of invention? How might architecture, institutional culture, community and leadership play roles helping (or hindering) creative people? Dive into these and other questions with three engaging discussion leaders—Art Molella, Director of the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, Monica Smith, Exhibition Program Manager for the Lemelson Center, and genome analyst Sean Eddy, one of the original scientists to join Janelia Farm, an audacious experiment in fostering innovation by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. And come prepared to describe your own places of invention!
