Tuberculosis kills around 2 million people each year and is particularly devastating in Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe. The only current vaccine for this disease was developed early last century and doesn't work against pulmonary TB, the most prevalent form of the disease.
Join DCSWA on June 30 as we visit one facility that is trying to change that, the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation in Rockville. We'll hear from researchers about ongoing and planned clinical trials of several candidate vaccines for TB, and we'll tour the labs where those vaccines are being developed and the BioSafety Level 2 manufacturing facility where they'll be mass-produced if approved.
Our event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and should conclude by 8:30 p.m. Parking is available at the Aeras facility, and transportation from the Rockville metro station will also be available starting at 6:30 p.m. Other logistical details will be provided later to DCSWA members who sign up for the event. Due to space limitations, attendance will be limited to 30.
STATUS: As of 14 June 2010, 11:05pm, we have reached attendance limit for this event. The web site's wait-list mechanism is broken, and the system is not properly notifying members that we have reached the limit, but you can take it from me that we have. If you'd like to be added to the wait list, please send an email to president@dcswa.org. Sorry for the inconvenience. – Webadmin
